DIAMOND GRADING
Diamonds are the only stones that have universally accepted standards of grading, which always include a 10X magnification in order to accurately view all inclusions, no matter how slight. GGS laboratories are equipped with the most advanced technological tools to complete a precise evaluation of your diamonds.

COLORED GEMSTONE GRADING
Colored gemstones are graded under the naked eye using a 20/20 vision standard. When it comes to grading colored gemstones, including colored diamonds, the richness and purity of the color is the primary indicatory of quality, and thus value. This color factor is divided into three categories:

  • Saturation: Purity of the color
  • Tone: Depth of the color
  • Hue: Color of the stone

JEWELRY GRADING
Unlike evaluating a loose stone, jewelry grading can possibly evolve identifying and appraising multiple types of material and craft in one piece. GGS will perform a thorough pre-cleaning and extensive appraisal of your jewelry item, including the stone and the setting.

PEARL GRADING
Unlike diamonds, pearls have no industry accepted grading system in place. Most pearls are in fact treated using a number of luster treatments to improve the color and surface appearance, making it rare to find a completely uncultured pearl. Size, thickness, color, luster, clarity and symmetry are all factors that GGS will use to grade your pearls. We will also take the type of pearl (Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian, Freshwater) into consideration of your pearl’s overall value.

METAL GRADING
All precious metals including gold, silver, palladium, and platinum, are evaluated on an individual basis based on each material’s unique characteristics. GGS will run thorough examinations to determine the metal’s weight, durability, authenticity, and value for your fine jewelry evaluation.

WATCH GRADING
Determining the overall value of a particular timepiece is a unique process in that our appraisal specialists will evaluate not only the quality of the materials, but also the wear-and-tear and functionality of the watch. A watch that is considered to be in mint condition will be mostly unblemished, and functioning precisely. GGS will present you with a detailed document explaining the specific factors that determine the value of your watch.

VINTAGE AND ESTATE GRADING
At GGS, we understand that evaluating estate jewelry can be a difficult yet terribly necessary process for you life and current needs. It can often be confusing for consumers to understand the difference between a piece of Vintage Jewelry and Estate Jewelry; our professional gemologists know that these categories do in fact have their own defining standards that differentiate them from one another, and will include all the necessary specifics in your certified appraisal.
